Sustainability

Derwent complies with the internationally recognised environmental management standard, ISO 14001 and are committed to ensuring that our materials, processing, products and services have minimal environmental impact.
For example, in 2002 we were awarded a Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development for developing a unique, solvent free paint application system which has reduced the emissions to air from the factory.
Recycle
- Blister cards are made from recycled materials.
- All of our paper-based packaging is recyclable.
Reduce
- The new Derwent Watercolour pencils are made from finger-jointed wood made from offcuts and the barrel paint is waterbased, thus reducing emissions to air.
- Intelligent control systems monitor and minimise energy usage in the factory.
Recover
- Woodwaste from the manufacturing process is burnt to provide energy to heat the premises.
- Rainwater is collected from the roof for use in the factory.
Return
- Derwent pencils are made from Incense Cedar from certified sustainable sources.
